Girls In Sport
Championing Gender Equity in Sport.
Keeping girls involved in sport and their communities has always been a point of passion for Jumpstart Founder and Chairman Emeritus, Martha Billes. Studies have repeatedly shown that girls drop out of sports at a much higher rate than boys, and we know that together we have the power to change that. By providing opportunities for girls to stay engaged in sport, Jumpstart helps girls grow their confidence, build relationships, and become strong leaders in their communities.
62% of Canadian girls are not participating in any kind of sport (CWS, 2020).
Participation in sports sets girls up for success later in life – 94% of women in c-suite positions played sports (Ernst & Young, 2020).
3X
Current drop-out rates are three-times higher when compared to boys of the same age (CWS, 2020).
<½
While we know that coaches play a critical role in creating an environment that encourages girls to stay in sports, less than half of coaches receive training on how to create quality opportunities for girls in sport (CWS, 2022).
